This is Liquid Soccer

To the English, Major League Soccer is seen as a bit of a Mickey Mouse league. They don’t even call it ‘football’ over there – that title goes goes to a sport that bizarrely uses the hand more often than the foot. So when SKY announced that they were to broadcast live fixtures from across the pond, the general reaction was underwhelming.

The MLS is seen by many as just a retirement village for once-top-draw players, but that is not the case. Bradley Wright-Phillips has always been shit. And when our season ends in May, there’s will be in full swing. So perhaps there are worse ideas than, at least, giving it a go?

Soccer is very different from football, granted; a boot is called a cleat, a transfer is called a draft, a squad is called a roster and Jozy Altidore put the ball in the net… twice! But once you manage to get your head around these discrepancies, it’s not too bad. Besides, it’s better than the SPL isn’t it!?

To coincide with this new campaign, the LiquidFootball radio lads have each chosen their preferred franchise (club) to keep and eye out for, and will be discussing the MLS on broadcasts throughout the season. Yeehaw!
