What are the scores, Nick Daws? 0-5, 0-3 and 1-2 – the 3 results that has caused Nick Daws to lose his job as Scunthorpe Gaffer, just 5 games into the new season.
Daws was only appointed permanently at Glanford Park a few months ago, but the club’s chairman has labelled that decision “a mistake”, after he pulled the trigger on the manager, following 3 straight defeats. The loss in the League Cup and to Sunderland could definitely be forgiven, and as it’s so early in the season he perhaps should’ve been given a bit longer to prove himself. But a 5-0 battering at home to Fleetwood was not OK in the eyes of the Scunthorpe board, and it resulted in the 3rd managerial casualty of the season already.
Paul Heckingbottom is the favourite to take the hot seat, followed by Stuart McCall and (of course) Steve Cotterill. But what next for Nick Daws? Well, before landing the role at Scunny, his only experience of management were 2 caretaker stints at Scunthorpe, so without any sort of CV behind him, it’ll be unlikely that we’ll see him take a number 1 role at professional club – but he will likely get a coaching role somewhere else in the lower-leagues.
